The Five Actions of Gratitude - Kenya Group with Tony Wachira
The Eddy Network Podcast Episode 156
My friend and colleague Tony Wachira of Nairobi, Kenya, invited me on his monthly group call. We decided that I’d talk about gratitude. My presentation and the following conversation were on The Five Actions of Gratitude.
In some places, gratitude is treated as a nice, social pleasantry. We thank the host of a dinner party, someone for opening the door for us, and the bellhop for carrying out our bags. We send thank you notes like our mother or grandmother taught us. Of course very old school.
Gratitude, in these instances, has a more perfunctory use. It is just part of the social lubrication that society requires.
Gratitude also has a self-centered purpose for some people. About twenty years ago, a whole gratitude movement erupted. I know people who have gratitude boards in their homes or offices. The purpose was to feel grateful. Like a lot of self-help fads, the feeling past and some other way of feeling good about oneself took the stage.
I, however, see gratitude in a totally practical, activist, constructive way. Gratitude needs to be something that we do. The Five Actions of Gratitude are not only ways to act grateful, but ways to turn your office or business into a center of gratefulness.
Take the five actions, and keep a record of every time you do one. It will change your life.
This is the conversation that I had with Tony and his group. I hope you enjoy it.
