Guido Palazzo - The Dark Pattern
The Eddy Network Podcast Episode 266
Is ethical blindness a product of the design of organizations in the modern world?
This is the focus of the work of Guido Palazzo, business ethics professor at the University of Lausanne. Guido and his co-author Ulrich Hoffrage have written a book on some of the most egregious scandals to occur in modern business.
I find their work interesting because I see the problems of organizations as a product of their design and structure.
In my model, the Circle of Impact, Ideas and Relationship take a subsidary role to the Structure of the organization. One of the main problems is the resistance to change designed into the structure. As a result, the leadership of organizations is given to those who best preserve the Structure of the organization.
These scandals are predictable, and the decline of modern organizations is as well. Guido Palazzo provides an excellent entry for conversation about the future of organizations and their leadership.
