I met Richard and Angela Searcy the first week after moving to North Wilkesboro in October 2020. They operate Wilkes County Hardware.

This is what I saw. I walked in and declared, “This is my hardware store.” It has been ever since. I’ll even drive the 45 minutes from where I now live to their store because I know they will take care of me.

Small town hardware stores are a crossroads of a community. Every Friday morning, a group of us would gather to catch up on what’s happening in town. The day that I was invited to join them was the day that I became a true citizen of Wilkes County.
