When I first became interested in the ideas and practices of leadership, two ideas emerged in my initial study. First is that I disagreed with the idea that leadership is a role or title in an organization. I came to see that “all leadership begins with personal initiative to create impact that makes a difference that matters.” This means that anyone can function as a leader of impact in their life. As a result, my Mission is “to move 1% of the world’s population to take personal initiative to create impact in their local communities.”
The second idea that I came to appreciate is that of servant leadership, pioneered in the 1960s by Robert Greenleaf. He wrote,
Sean Georges in many respects, is this generation’s servant leader. If you watched his TEDX talk that I posted as a preview for our conversation, you hear a story about what servant leadership is. This idea stands in stark contrast to the many of the business and political leaders who in the words of Robert Greenleaf, see “power, influence, fame, and wealth.”
I am honored to have Sean on The Eddy Network Podcast. I hope that our conversation will motivate you to seek to be a servant leader in your life.
In addition to Sean’s advocacy for servant leadership, he is the co-author with John Buford of the book, On Mission: Your Journey to Authentic Leadership. John Buford will be my next guest on The Eddy Network Podcast, episode 28. Watch my interview with John and Sean as their book was launched last summer
