Perspective is relative to context, and context is relative to time. When we experience change, our context changes, along with our perspective.
This is why conversations with people who are in the midst of a life transition are so interesting, too. Such is my conversation with Steven Shepherd who recently retired after three decades of work in the corporate world.
We talk about work, the future, and a range of things that are relevant to all of us.
Thank you, Steve, for joining me for a insightful conversation about the future.

Steven's bio
Member of the NHS Future Vision senior executive coaching team.
Member of the NHS Q Community focused on practical improvement and impactful innovation.
Advisor to tech, in particular health tech, company leaders on "relationship ripple" based business development.
Creator of "Lead with Care from Anywhere" peer learning community.
Battle scars from 3 decades building tech/data businesses for automation, collaboration, cloud, data protection and AI prediction - most of it carrying a sales target.
Community builder: My soul food project is helping my village to become the healthiest in the UK. My approach is to focus on: - What's strong (not what's wrong)? - What matters to you (not what's a matter with you)? - What's possible (not what is just expected of you)? The objective is to help you think with greater clearly and depth, to become more than your reputation allows.
I try to live by four beliefs (less than perfectly most days):
- Be Kind: in service to others (I would rather be owed a favour than a fiver)
- Be Curious: continually learning new stuff and striving to understand the diverse viewpoints/beliefs of others
- Be Courageous: the right path is rarely the easiest path, face conflict and you only fail when you stop trying
- Be Optimistic: hard for a dower Yorkshireman, however try to see the best in people and remain hopeful So, just one question, how can I be an ally in what matters to you?
