The Circle of Impact in Practice

The Circle of Impact model is a comprehensive treatment in a simplified form for functioning as a leader of impact. It has multiple applications. It is a problem-solving tool. A strategic planning tool. An evaluation tool. A charting progress tool. A meeting planning tool. It can be used in business, community events, and with families.

When I first identified the relationship between the three dimensions of leadership - Ideas, Relationships, and Structure, all I was doing was identifying the patterns of behavior that I saw in organizations. Over time as I used the model to answer questions, I came to realize that I had created the Swiss Army knife of leadership models. Learn to use the model, and no obstacle can stand in your way of improvement.

I know that sounds like an overstatement. However, if you know me, I am not oriented to bluster and overstatement. When I say, it is a universal problem-solving tool of the first order, it really is.

The Next Stage in the Development of the Circle of Impact

While everything I said above is true, it is clear to me that the Circle of Impact has not reached a level of understanding to make it compelling enough for people to adopt it. Therefore I am beginning a project to develop a follow-up book to Circle of Impact. At this point, I don’t know what it looks like.

What I do know is that I want to work on this book in the most practical sense possible. So, I’m going to write it here on Substack with you. We will follow the process that I created called Impact Day. It is a program that I use in my coaching work. It produces clarity and direction for taking action.

We will not only discuss the content of the book. We’ll identify the audience for the book. We’ll discuss how to promote the book while writing it. As far as the project goes, everything is on the table, except not writing it. Okay. This is a great opportunity to participate in a project that involves content development, communication planning, marketing strategy, and, finally, promotion through a network of relationships process.

During the project, you’ll receive a half-hour coaching session with me each month to talk about your specific focus in our process. There will also be a monthly group Zoom call to discuss the content of the book. Timing for that call will be established based on where participants live. Lastly, at the end of the process, I will invite you to be interviewed on my podcast, The Eddy Network. What you learn can make a difference to someone somewhere. When we can share with the world the lessons that we have learned, we create a global environment for leadership impact to be developed.
