“If the Center abandons the belief system of society in favor of more subsidiary or contrary beliefs, the Periphery will begin to abandon respect for the Center. … When the Center cannot hold the Periphery, it either dissolves or becomes authoritarian. … When the Center no longer supports the Periphery, the Periphery must turn to its own resources. As a result, multiple smaller Centers form. These new Centers learn to exist more independently of the traditional Center.”
I think this observation of yours describes ideological intellectualism in general. And the inevitable reaction to the relentless attempts to mould people into conforming to 'elite' belief sets. Bravo.
I’m convinced that to see it as I have described means that it is possible to reverse it. We call them “elites” because that is how they want us to see them. They aren’t elite, but isolated, marginalized, and poorly prepared to live in a world that is the product of their destructive tendencies.
This is a great way of saying it as I now feel...they claim to care for lives or for the marginalized yet they often treat what they claim to value with utter disdain. I do not understand it.
One more thing. It may sound like I am cynical and nihilistic. I am not. I am optimistically realistic. Because the culture I describe is shallow and exists as a simulation that can only be accessed in its fullness in the screen. Turn off the screen. Go talk to someone face to face, and you’ll see a world with a depth of meaning emerge from the conversation. This is what I am doing with my podcast, The Eddy Network- YouTube - https://tinyurl.com/42xx39ph
We have reached the endpoint of consumerism. Everything, every body, every idea has been reduced to a commodity to be exploited. The result is that nothing has value. Everything can be tossed when its utility has been exhausted. This is not just a cultural crisis. It is a spiritual crisis. But we can’t talk about it as such because even spirituality has been marginalized into a commodity to be monetized and exploited for personal benefit. So, what are we left with? Really!

We have a choice in this.
